One of the fascinating things that I have found in music, and in singing in particular, is just how much vulnerability is required in the process of art making. The singer and their instrument are one and the same — it is rightfully so that their art is inseparable from who they are, they are the physicalization of their voice. Similarly, I have always found that writing is the truest reflection of the self and is as fragile and honest as one can possibly be. The compositional arts are unique in that there is no marriage to what has come before or what is to come, but rather what is. Writing has always been a way for me to express myself and although I’ve written music since I started playing piano, it hasn’t been until recently that I began to recognize my pieces as compositions. Along this path, I have been discovering quite a bit about myself and what drives my own voice. I hope to keep discovering. Thanks.
